This practice is essentially the same method of relief printing that was invented in the fifteenth century by Johannes Gutenberg, using movable type, hand-carved blocks, and hand-cranked printing presses. The ink gets embedded into the thick soft paper so it won't fade within your lifetime. Letterpress printing is a process in which raised, inked surfacesusually made of wood, metal, or linoleumare pressed onto paper. Letterpress is a very complicated and expensive printing method that I am obsessed with. All letterpress prints are slammed with 600 pounds of pressure, creating a deep, tactile texture. I edit the information significantly, avoiding the "dazzle" effect which occurs when our eyes are battered with too much information.
